NextGen | Empowering Autistic Young Adults

 Mission

NextGen empowers families and autistic young adults to find, train, and retain caregivers who value each person’s communication style, autonomy, and strengths. We connect individuals with the tools, networks, and housing pathways needed to build fulfilling, self-directed lives.

Vision

We envision a future where every autistic adult has access to competent, respectful caregivers; where non-speakers can fully exercise communication choice with appropriate education; and where supported and independent living options are available across the lifespan—providing continuity of care as family caregivers age.

Core Commitments

Empowering Choice & Self-Determination

We believe autonomy, respect, and freedom are fundamental human rights. NextGen supports families by providing practical tools and guidance to recruit, train, and retain caregivers who presume competence and value diverse communication styles. Our training covers how to identify qualified caregivers, understand potential compensation incentives, collaborate effectively within the community to enhance recruitment and implement retention strategies that uphold each person’s autonomy and communication choice. Through this work, we help families build the foundation for their loved ones to lead fully self-directed lives.

Building Strong Support Networks

NextGen connects families with information and community resources that support the development of strong, self-directed support networks. We offer guidance on engaging and training caregivers and volunteers, as well as collaborating with partner organizations, to expand opportunities for supported living, social programming, education, communication and life-skills development. We offer families a train-the-trainer approach, supporting knowledge-transfer so that each family can  source solutions that fit their individual needs and lifestyle.
